Nicolas Potel Mazoyeres Chambertin Grand Cru 2008
Robert ParkerÂ
From a single grower, but representing for its cru the considerable sum of 9 barrels, Maison Potel’s 2008 Mazoyeres Chambertin smells penetratingly of kirsch, cherry jam, eucalyptus, and incense. Sweetly-fruited, sappy, and expansive on the palate, its underlying tannins come to the fore in a slightly rustic manner in the finish, which however is still impressively gripping, energetic, and intensely fruited as well as pungently herbal. This ought to merit at least a decade of cellaring, though I would want to revisit and reevaluate it within 2-3.
